Overview
This conference brings together perspectives from the continuum of care to examine how National Access Targets and Guarantees can be implemented across health. It will bring together case studies across jurisdictions to set benchmarks and standardise frameworks for measurement across the entire health system.
With the focus on healthcare reform, comes the need to define what we measure and how we measure it, to create smart data which drives improvement.
"Noting that 'we manage what we measure', stakeholders have emphasised that the performance indicators should be capable of driving positive changes that are appropriate to reform goals."
AIHW, June 2008
"There is a critical need to develop a credible and well resourced national health data system for monitoring and comparing performance, we lack a framework for making it (data) ‘smart’ – comparing, analysing and reporting it back to clinicians, healthservices and consumers in a user-friendly format. Without smart data we cannot know either the extent of the problem, how we should target improvement."
A healthier future of all Australians, NHHRC, June 2009
